What do I do with low-FODMAP chicken broth?
Anything you like! Add it to your favorite soups and homemade sauces. Use our chicken broth to craft a pan sauce or gravy, make a risotto, or create a delicious, low-FODMAP stew. Or sprinkle in some salt and pepper and enjoy it straight from the pouch.
How is this low-FODMAP chicken broth made?
We start by sourcing humane, certified organic chicken bones and organic vegetables from local farms. To ensure only the safe, green parts of our leeks and scallions are making it into the broth, we trim all the vegetables by hand.
We combine all the bones, vegetables, and water, and gently simmer them together for over 16 hours. We then remove all the fat and other impurities to produce one of the clearest and cleanest broths you’ll find.
To retain flavor, the broth is bottled in pouches under sterile conditions. This produces an aromatic, shelf-stable broth that will last for at least 18 months without refrigeration. From start to finish, production of our chicken broth is done entirely in the U.S.
What are the ingredients?
Our chicken broth is made from water, certified organic chicken bones, and organic vegetables from local farms. We use the green tops of scallions, the green parts of leeks, chives, parsley, carrots, and a small amount of celery.
We only source the finest organic ingredients, and organic chicken bones make up more than 40% of the recipe in weight for a remarkably robust flavor.
You won’t find any additives, fillers, stabilizers, preservatives, or yeast in our chicken broth. Our recipe does not include salt or pepper either, giving you the option to season it to your liking, depending on whether you are pouring it straight into a bowl or using it with a favorite recipe.
Are there any preservatives?
Absolutely not. You won’t find any additives, fillers, stabilizers, preservatives, yeast, or ingredients you can’t pronounce in our chicken broth. Our recipe does not include salt or pepper either, giving you the option to season it to your liking, depending on whether you are using it straight from the pouch or in a favorite recipe.
What is humanely-raised chicken?
To raise and produce chicken humanely is an approach that includes the proper treatment and care of chickens and those raising them, as well as the highest level of discretion in how the chickens are processed and packaged. Additionally, employees responsible for production must have excellent conditions to work in.
The chicken bones we use in our low-FODMAP broth are from companies that achieved and continue to adhere to a certification of humane care and handling of chickens through the HFAC (Humane Farm Animal Care) association.
The companies we source from must also meet the standards for USDA Certified Organic production. Their organic chickens must also be free-range, with access to well-maintained grass pastures.
The chickens are fed an all-vegetable diet and antibiotics are never used when raising the organic chicken that we source.
Is this a "bone broth?”
Bones account for over 40% of the ingredients by weight (more than most broths on the market!) and we simmer everything for over 16 hours, so you could certainly call our chicken broth a bone broth.
Any liquid containing brewed bones simmered in water is considered a bone broth. Studies suggest that drinking bone broth may be beneficial for the joints and digestive system as these broths contain protein and collagen extracted from the tissues.
Although some bone broth recipes call for vinegar and salt, we use a recipe free of both for flavor and cooking flexibility.
Why is there no salt added?
We make our broth free of salt so that you have the option of seasoning it to taste.
When broths containing salt are reduced during cooking sauces, soups, risottos, and stews, they can easily make the final result far too salty. Since we leave the salt out of our chicken bone broth, you can season your signature recipes with exactly the amount you need. The trace amount of sodium you see on our nutrition label is from the natural salts found in bones and vegetables.
Why is there no vinegar added?
Some bone broths call for vinegar, citing claims that it lowers the pH level to extract more nutrients from the bones as they cook. However, our testing shows that small amounts of vinegar do not make a substantial difference in the pH, but do impart a sour taste that we and our test panels don’t enjoy.
Do I have to keep the pouches in the fridge?
Nope! You can store our low-FODMAP chicken broth in your pantry or cupboard for up to 18 months (be sure to refer to the expiration date for best results and maximal flavor). Once you open the broth, however, you must store it in the fridge and use it within 3-5 days.
How long will it last?
Our organic broth is bottled in BPA-free pouches using one of the most prevalent types of thermal sterilization systems in the world. This process sterilizes the product, locking in all the aroma, color, and flavor and producing a shelf-stable broth that will last for at least 18 months without refrigeration.
However, once the seal is opened, you must store it in the refrigerator and enjoy it within 3-5 days.
Is your packaging environmentally friendly?
Our chicken broth is packaged in BPA-free, lightweight pouches. We’ve chosen pouches because the delicate flavors of our broth are best maintained in this format with the added benefit of having a smaller environmental footprint than glass jars – using less energy and generating fewer greenhouse gases to produce and ship.
